Aside from their standardized size, there are several other benefits to using Storz couplings over threaded ones. These include quick locking and uncoupling (with a quarter turn), safety, and ease of use.
The hooks on opposing Storz couplings insert into each other’s flange slot when they are pressed together. Rotating them in opposite directions a quarter turn engages latches on each side to secure the connection and create a water-proof seal with the gasket between the lug parts.
Storz couplings are compatible with other types of hoses and can be used for various applications, including water supply, agriculture, marine, military, and maritime. They are made of aluminum or brass, and are forged instead of cast, making them stronger and less likely to break.
