In Automotive Industry, Hose Clamps and Hose Clips has different meanings and serves different purposes.
A Hose Clamp is used to keep the hose tight at connection points , like the place where the Hose is inserted to a pipe orplace where the hose is connected to a tank inlet or outlet. The following image has the hose clamped with Car Radiator Inlet.
A Hose clip is used to support the overhanging portion of the hose and minimise oscillation of the hose, when the car is moving . Usually the hose clip is inserted or fixed with a rigid component like car frame or panel.
A Hose Clamp is exactly like Chris Kellis mentioned below, “a device that holds a hose to a rigid tube of sorts that Is inserted in said hose. Using a screw driver the hose clamp tightens the hose to the rigid part.”
The difference with a Hose Clip is the screw part. While a hose clip looks like this:
You simply use a vise to hold the ears to loosen it while positioning over the part of the hose that you will clamp.
Hose clips are usually used to clamp radiator hose in automotive/industrial engines.
For smaller and ordinary water (normal temperature) hoses, I prefer to use hose clamps because it is easier to handle.
